The Fresno State women’s tennis team picked up victories over No. 20 Long Beach State and No. 49 San Diego.

With the wins, the Bulldogs record improves to 10-7 while the team continues to climb the national rankings, where the team currently sits at No. 29.

The win over Long Beach State marks the second time this season that the Bulldogs have knocked off a No. 20 team.

On March 8, Fresno State defeated then No. 20 William and Mary at the Wathen Tennis Center, 4-3.

Fresno State’s Katharina Winterhalter went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play.

Winterhalter and doubles partner Lucia Sainz, ranked No. 5, defeated Long Beach State’s No. 24 duo of Hannah Grady and Jessica Weeks, 8-5.

The Bulldogs managed to defeated San Diego, Sunday, despite the Bulldogs’ Melanie Gloria dropping a 7-5, 6-3 decision to No. 42 Emma Murphy.

Gloria is ranked No. 19 nationally.

The Bulldogs once again received solid doubles play, winning all three matches against the Toreros.

Gloria, along with doubles partner Jacqueline Haskett, trumped San Diego’s duo of Brittany Reitz and Zoe Taylor with an 8-1 decision.

"It was nice to have a good crowd out today for the win," said head coach Simon Thibodeau. "We played well in doubles and beat a good top-50 team."

Fresno State will return to action Thursday for a doubleheader with Cal Poly and Nevada at the Wathen Tennis Center.
