It was bound to happen at some point.

The Fresno State baseball team finally lost a game, dropping a 9-8 decision to New Mexico State.

The two teams combined for 43 runs in the series, with the Bulldogs picking up wins in games one and two against the Aggies, 6-3 and 10-7, respectively.

For the Bulldogs, shortstop Christian Vitters had a monster weekend, going 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs on Friday.

Vitters also had an RBI single and a 3-run home run that lifted the Bulldogs to a victory Saturday.

Fresno State jumped out to a lead in all three games, including a 3-2 lead after the first inning Sunday, but could not hold the lead.

The Aggies scored runs in the first five innings, and their run in the bottom of the eigth inning broke an 8-8 tie with the Bulldogs.

Presley Askew Field, the home of the Aggies, proved to be the hitters park it was touted to be.

All three Bulldog starters saw their earned run average climb back over 3.00, while combining for 16 walks during the three-game series. Sunday starter Andy Underwood gave up six free passes in his five inning start Sunday. Friday starter Doug Fister also pitched five innings while Saturday starter Eddie Romero threw 5.1 innings.
