The Fresno State softball team welcomed newcomer Utah State to the Western Athletic Conference with a pair of wins.

Saturday’s finale was rained out, the sixth time a game has been rained out for the Bulldogs this season.

It was the Bulldogs who rained down on the Aggies in Friday’s nightcap, scoring five runs in the first inning on its way to a 10-2 victory.

The Bulldogs also took game one of the double-header 3-2, with Fresno State’s Robin Mackin earning the victory in each game.

Friday’s double-header finale was an onslaught of runs by the bottom half of the Bulldogs lineup, including Shannon Garvin’s first career home run as a Bulldog.

The three-run blast came in the bottom of the fifth inning, lifting the Bulldogs to an 8-run mercy rule victory.
Seven Bulldogs collected at least one hit in the game, while five had a two-hit game.

Game one of the series went the Bulldogs’ way, even though the action was tied 2-2 after six innings of play.

Bulldog freshman sensation Haley Perkins hit a game-winning home run to guide the Bulldogs to a victory over the Aggies.

Fresno State improved its record to 24-13 overall, including a 4-1 WAC record.

Utah State continues to struggle, with its record dropping to 4-21 overall to go with an 0-2 WAC record.

Fresno State will hit the road for a colossal match-up with No. 5 and Pac-10 member Stanford.
