The Fresno State men’s baseball team lost its third consecutive game by one run to Louisiana Tech last weekend.

The three game series resulted in the Bulldogs dropping from the top 25 ranking in the division.

Fresno State lost each game of the series by just one run, with the first two games going into extra innings.

In the third and final game, both Fresno State starter Andy Underwood and the Louisiana Tech starter pitched full games. Underwood finished the game with 8 innings pitched, allowing six hits while striking out six and giving up no runs.

The Bulldogs had the chance to get an early lead in the third inning when Brian Lapin was hit by a pitch and Danny Grubb bunted him to second.

A single up the middle by Erik Wetzel moved him to third, but the inning ended with a strikeout and a forced-out at second base after a ground ball.

Louisiana Tech’s winning run came from a sixth-inning homer over the left field wall.

The Bulldogs had a final shot to tie the game in the ninth inning as Kent Sakamoto led off the inning with a single to center field and Beau Mills made his fourth hit of the day to put himself on base. However, the inning ended with a double play and a strikeout, ending Fresno State’s chances to make a comeback.

Fresno State will visit San Jose State this weekend for a three-game series before returning home April 27 for a non-conference meeting with Dallas Baptist.
