Women’s Tennis

Fresno State has won seven consecutive matches after sweeping visiting Santa Clara 7-0 Saturday at the Wathen Tennis Center.

The No. 24 Bulldogs and seniors Lucia Sainz and Katharina Winterhalter dominated the Broncos in every match.

The sixth-ranked duo of Sainz and Winterhalter defeated Santa Clara’s unranked duo 8-1. The two combined have combined for 196 doubles wins with their respective partners.

Also earning victories for the Bulldogs were No. 21 Melanie Gloria (6-1. 6-2), Magdalena Tokarska (6-2, 6-3), Jacqueline Haskett (6-3, 6-0) and Bruna Paes (7-6, 6-2). Sainz and Winterhalter also notched singles victories for the Bulldogs.

Men’s Tennis

The Fresno State men’s tennis team closed out its regular season with a 5-2 road victory at Santa Barbara.

The Bulldogs, ranked No. 47 nationally, won the doubles point by taking two of three matches from the Gauchos.

Fresno State also won four of six singles matches despite the Bulldogs’ No. 63 ranked Jakub Cech falling to Santa Barbara’s Nick Brotman, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Women’s Golf

Fresno State coach Angie Cates has announced the signings of two high school golfers.

Pia Escandon and Hali Coppin each signed national letters of intent to play for Cates and the Bulldogs in the fall of 2006.

Escandon is a native of Cuernavaca, Mexico and a member of the Mexican National Team.

Coppin hails from Loomis, Calif. and won the Woodcreek Junior Tournament and Alta Sierra Junior Classic in 2005. She is a senior at Del Oro High School.

Softball

The NCAAA announced its Division I Softball 25th Anniversary Team, Tuesday. Fresno State was represented with two selections in former Bulldog All-Americans Laura Berg and Amanda Scott.

Berg was one of two outfielders while Scott was one of four four-time NCAA First Team All-Americans and one of six pitchers.

Katie Nelson, Twyla Coffman and Kori Sherman all have quit the softball team, according to head coach Margie Wright. Wright said the three have been off the team for over a month.
