STAFF REPORT / The Collegian

Fresno State women’s golfer Laura Luethke shot a tournament-low 4-under 68 in Saturday’s final round of the NCAA western regional but fell short of an NCAA championships berth.

The top two golfers from non-qualifying teams earn automatic berths to the NCAA championships.

Luethke and Oregon’s Johnna Nealy matched up in a playoff to determine who would get the final at-large bid.

The two golfers tied on the first hole, but Luethke, a freshman, bogeyed the second and Nealy shot par to earn the final bid.

Luethke shot 4-over 76 on each of the first two days of the regional before Saturday’s big round.
She recorded four birdies on the day.
