Head Coach Matt Entz and Fresno State football have finalized the 2026 recruiting class, the first for Fresno State in the Pac-12. Entz adds 25 players from high school, including stand-out Clovis High School quarterback Deagan Rose, and 18 from the NCAA transfer portal.
The ‘Dogs were strategic in their portal acquisitions, targeting players that coaches have had preexisting relationships with.
“Of the [18] players that we did bring in as transfers, 12 of them we had existing relationships with,” Entz said.
Last season, the ‘Dogs hit the portal hard, bringing in “close to 30 transfers,” according to Entz. He and the staff would like to see the number of transfers continue to dwindle.
“Hopefully, we can continue to narrow that number as we develop internally,” Entz said.
The Bulldogs also retained several key starters from the 2025 roster, including four players who were granted extra eligibility. They lost the third fewest snaps in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Last season, the Bulldogs lost 75% of their roster to graduation or the portal.
One of their returners, Josiah Freeman, had to navigate some controversy involving tampering, but it didn’t faze him or the Bulldogs.
“He’s found a place that works for him,” Entz said regarding the tampering situation.
The Bulldogs will be back on the gridiron in mid-March for spring ball and have their showcase game in late-April, according to Entz.
