The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) released a statement saying they launched a comprehensive investigation into Fresno State men’s basketball team for “suspicious sports wagering.” This resulted in an unnamed suspect being booked in Clark County Detention Center on May 5.
According to the NGCB’s statement, they are investigating and pursuing charges on several other individuals who are involved.
The suspect was connected and involved with the 2024-2025 men’s basketball program and was involved in an alleged conspiracy to organize with other players and use their knowledge of the team to intentionally profit from gambling and betting on player performances. The suspect will be charged with:
- Fraudulent acts
- Conspiracy cheating and gambling
- Conspiracy to launder money
The NGCB worked closely with the NCAA during their investigation to find this conclusion, as well as obtaining evidence through various elements like subpoenas, financial records, cellphone data and licensed sportsbook operators. The release references a Jan. 7, 2025 basketball game where the Bulldogs lost to Colorado State 64-91.
Over a year ago, two Fresno State basketball players, Jalen Weaver and Mykell Robinson, were suspended and then removed from the team following a gambling scandal. A third player, Zaon Collins, was also suspended, but would be reinstated.
