The Fresno State baseball team proved to be the perfect cure for the Stanford Cardinal, who a week earlier, was swept by Cal State Fullerton.

The meeting between the two teams was scheduled for three games, but due to persistent rain, only two games could be completed, both of which were won by the host Cardinal.

In a rain-delayed first game, the Bulldogs (1-5) were unable to stop a potent Stanford lineup, which scored six runs Saturday — prior to the game’s delay — and three more early Sunday to give the Cardinal a 9-2 victory over Fresno State in rain-delayed game one.

Game two had more potential for the Bulldogs, especially after a four-run fifth inning tied the game up at four. But on one play in the sixth inning, the Cardinal was able to convert for another two runs on a play in which the Bulldogs committed two errors.

On the unconventional play, the Bulldogs’ Todd Sandell and Tom Mendonca committed an error, allowing both Stanford runners on base to score. Those two runs would prove to be the deciding factor in the game won by the Cardinal, 6-4.

For the Bulldogs, Loren Storey continues to smoke the ball, Storey collected another three hits in the second game.
