The Fresno State men’s golf team took home the title of the Diablo Grande Invitational Tuesday, with three team members finishing in the top 15 of the tournament.

Senior Jonny Rosa led the Bulldog’s efforts, placing fourth in the tournament overall with a total of 225 strokes in three rounds.

Senior Brian Kelley birdied three of his last four holes to shoot a final round 72 and finish in eighth place with a total of 227. Freshman Matt Shaw finished in 15th with a 230.

“I give Jonny credit for hanging in there and playing some good golf,” head coach Mike Watney said in a press release regarding the victory. “Brian’s play today was a huge contribution. Matt is a tough freshman who we are going to see some good things from down the road.”

Senior Ryan McDonald placed 26th while Nick McClintock tied for 35th place.

“With all the weather conditions the team endured — the freezing cold, wind and rain, I am so proud we pulled through for the win,” Watney said.

Fresno State will next compete in the Arizona National Invitational Tournament on March 26 through 28 in Tucson.
