After a rainy beginning to the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational, the Fresno State women’s golf team finished in fifth place.

The tournament is being held at Copper River Country Club, and has a field of 19 teams. Copper River has a par average of 72 and a total distance of 6004 yards.

A wet Monday left the Bulldogs in ninth place after the first day, but solid performances by all five Bulldog golfers the second day aided the Bulldogs in jumping up four places.

UC Irvine was the most consistent team in the invitational and it showed, as they were the only team in the field to finish under par.

The individual winner also belongs to UC Irvine, with Selanee’ Henderson shooting a 5-under 67 for the Anteaters Monday and a 2-under 70 Tuesday.

For the Bulldogs, Laura Luethke finished her opening round amidst wind and rain, completing her round in a tie for tenth place with a 3-over 73. Luethke finished the tournament with a 151, 6 strokes over par, and was the Bulldogs third-best finisher.

Participating teams and players were forced to deal with both consistent bursts of wind and rain Monday and it showed, as Tuesday’s scores were dramatically lower as a group.

Fresno State’s top performer was senior Adrianna Chico, who also had the best individual round for the Bulldogs with a 1-over 73.

Chico’s combined score of 149 earned her a tie for 20th place overall.

The rest of the Fresno State field of golfers includes Jennifer Shipley, Brittany Cooley and Yumi Chung.
Shipley finished in a tie for 27th with an 8-over par 150.

Cooley finished in a tie for 53rd place with a 10-over par 154.

Chung finished in a tie for 82nd, accumulating a two-day total of 161 — 19-over par.

Some of the participating teams in the tournament include UC Irvine, Long Beach State, Oregon State, Oregon, Colorado State, Colorado and San Diego State.
