Nominations are being sought for the Rosa Parks-Dr. Martin Luther King Awards.

The awards will be held to honor Fresno State students, faculty and staff as well as members of the community for their contributions in community service.

The event will be held on Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Ramada Inn.

The banquet is a semi-formal dinner and dance organized by Meta Schettler, Fresno State professor of Africana and American Indian Studies Program.

James Walton, Chair of the English Department, is the banquet’s keynote speaker.

Schettler said the banquet will be a festive event that brings people together.

She also said the purpose of the banquet is to honor the memories of Parks, King and Coretta Scott King.
“Anyone who wants to recognize the memories of Rosa Parks and Dr. King are welcome to attend,” Schettler said.

A gospel choir and a DJ will be on hand as the banquet’s entertainment.

Tickets to the banquet are currently on sale for $20 per person, and $200 per table. The last day to purchase tickets is Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Nominations for the awards should be sent by e-mail to Yaw Oheneba-Sakyi at [email protected] by Monday, Feb. 20.
