The Fresno State women’s basketball team was defeated by Louisiana Tech on Saturday night despite a second-half rally attempt.

The Lady Techsters managed to hold on to win 70-61, despite a strong effort by the Bulldogs to overcome a 13-point halftime double-digit deficit on Louisiana’s home turf.

The Bulldogs (14–5, 6–1) defeated Louisiana Tech (14–4, 6–1) two weeks ago at the Save Mart Center and were trying to become the first opponent to sweep a conference regular season series from Louisiana Tech since 1990.

The loss also ends a seven-game winning streak by Fresno State, meaning that the Bulldogs and Louisiana Tech are now tied for first place in the WAC.

“I was proud of the way we fought back late in the second half,” head coach Adrian Wiggins said in a press release regarding the game.

“It took us a lot of energy to get back in the game. Louisiana Tech played better down the stretch and that was the difference. We need to remember that it’s still a long season and must continue to play hard.”

With the loss, Fresno State now shares a tie with the Lady Techsters.

Amy Parrish led the Bulldogs with 18 points to go with eight rebounds. Mirenda Swearengin scored 13 points while Chantella Perera added 11 points to the scoreboard.

Fresno State next plays Feb. 4 against Boise State in the Save Mart Center.
