The spring season is back, and more importantly, so am I.

And the things that I am most looking forward to in the spring sports season are: baseball, softball, basketball, wrestling, track, golf and, well you get it, all of them.

Basically, the sports are coming from out of the woodshed, and I love it. However, my heart belongs to only one sport—mine, yours and America’s pastime—baseball.

Back in the day, I was the one who was breaking all of the records.

Even in high school, I batted .500. Sure it was in a limited number of at-bats, but the point is, I can swing it. Intramural softballers, here I come.

Coming up tomorrow is the annual Fresno State baseball alumni game, home to some major talent, even if it is slightly aged.

The Bulldogs have had some elite talent at the collegiate level and some of those elite players are on tap for this Saturday’s 2 p.m. start. Take the alumni’s hopeful starter, former Bulldog All-American Jeff Weaver.

The dream Weaver has been one of Major League Baseball’s most consistent starters throughout his career, having never missed a start because of injury (knock on wood). That in itself is a tremendous feat.
The former Bulldog athletes, such as Weaver have in the past been the main attraction, but this year, the Bulldog baseball team brings to the plate the 21st ranked team in the country, according to Baseball America.

Leading the 2006 Diamond ‘Dogs is third-team preseason All-American Beau Mills, who set a Fresno State freshman homerun record with 22.

I once hit a record number of homers too but I don’t want to brag so if you are aware enough, you will see as I work it in subliminally4inonegame.

Through my experience in talking to other students about the Bulldog baseball team, many have never attended a game, unless one of their friends is playing, so they can scream and woo when their player of choice is batting.

If you are a student and still need a reason to root on Fresno State on the diamond, you probably need some sort of star power aspect to apply to the team.

Well, I have just what you are looking for. This season, for the first time ever, the Fresno State baseball team is prominently featured in the first edition of MVP NCAA Baseball 2006 by EA Sports (note: by prominent I mean that they are represented in the game, it’s just me being over dramatic).

So as you can clearly see, Beiden Field, the home of the Diamond ‘Dogs, may as well be Hollywood with all it has to offer.

Point is, baseball, more notably Fresno State baseball, is much more than it is cracked up to be.

With a big-name packed schedule, started off by the Alumni team, you now have no more excuses on why not to work on your tan, and see a good baseball game.
