Women’s basketball snaps losing streak


Fresno State broke its two-game losing streak when they played San Diego and came away with a 56-50 victory.


The Bulldogs entered the contest averaging 78.8 points per game.


Junior Chantella Perera’s game-high 21 points led the Bulldogs to the non-conference victory.


Perera connected on 5 of 12 3-point attempts and had eight rebounds to help the Bulldogs edge out the Toreros in the battle of the boards 49-27.


Senior Amy Parish contributed 10 points and eight rebounds while junior Brittani Green added eight points on perfect 4 for 4 shooting and junior Jasmine Plummer paced the team with nine rebounds.


With a little more than eight minutes left, the Toreros took a 45-42 lead but the Bulldogs answered with a 14-5 run and held on for the victory.


The Bulldogs had 25 turnovers, thanks to 18 steals from San Diego.

Fresno State opens up a four-game homestand at the Save Mart Center when they host winless Cal State Fullerton on Friday at 7 p.m.

Men’s basketball returns home for brief home stay


The Bulldogs will host just the second home game of the season when CS Northridge comes to town.
The last time the two teams met, the Matadors posted a 69-66 victory. Heading into the game, CS Northridge is 4-2.


The Matadors are led by junior guard Mike Efevberha, who has earned Big West Player of the Week honors and been named to the Golden Bear Classic all-tournament team. In addition, he has led the Big West in scoring and rebounding entering last week’s games.


After the home game, Fresno State will head down south for the second annual San Diego SLAM hosted by San Diego State.


The Bulldogs will face the University of San Diego in the first match up while the Aztecs and Washington State meet up. The winners will face each other in the championship match.

Wrestling opens home season on Saturday


Fresno State wrestling begins tits regular season this week as the team holds the first dual match on Saturday.


The Wyoming Cowboys, one of the five teams in the Western Region, will come to town to avenge a 35-11 loss to Fresno State last year.
