Let’s get involved
Christmas during my childhood was a dubious thought. Exposure to the idea of Santa Claus rewarding children for good behavior was misleading. Apparently, immigrating to the land of excess exempted a child from being on Santa’s list. It made me somewhat skeptical.
Apathy from relatives knowing our situation and their unwillingness to spare an effortless thought created painful memories. The years passed, and those memories have now been put toward productive action.
Sadly, this scenario continues in our cities.
This year, full of natural disasters and destitute families, individuals have pulled through for those in need.
As the year ends, volunteerism and community involvement are areas for improvement. When given the chance, we should make an effort to include those in need in the holiday spirit.
Volunteering at The Sanctuary in downtown Fresno helped me reinforce this belief. The hardest part was committing. Far from being the poster child for volunteerism, my reward comes knowing something was done to help someone less fortunate.

‘Dog fan forever
I am one of many heart-broken Bulldogs today. Lousiana Tech two years in a row... and on senior night.
This was one of the worst losses I can remember as a loyal Bulldog fan.
In the last few hours after the game I blamed everyone from the players, to the coaches and the refs.
Then I realized what was really important about that night at Bulldog Stadium that everyone is missing. It was senior night, a night we saw a few all-time great Bulldogs for the last time in Bulldog Stadium.
This season sure did turn bad, and quickly, but let us not forget about all the great games we have been a part of in the last four years. These senior ‘Dogs have earned our respect over the past four seasons and that loss shouldn’t change that. Go ‘Dogs!
