Women’s soccer moves on in Tourney; 4 players recognized

No. 5 seed Fresno State beat No. 4 Utah State 2-1 in the first round of the WAC tournament. It is the Bulldogs’ first win in the tournament since 2002.

Kortney Lewis scored the game winner in the 74th minute. The Bulldogs will take on No. 1 seed Hawaii today. The Bulldogs beat the Warriors 1-0 the last game of the regular season.

Lewis, Cortney Sobrero, Rochelle Jagdeo and goal keeper Angie Larsen were selected to the WAC first team. Jagdeo also took the honor of Defensive Player of the Year.

Freshman Alison Sill was a second team all-conference selection.

Volleyball bucks Broncos

For the first time this season, the volleyball team swept its opponent, winning the game 30-28, 30-25, 30-20.

The usual suspects led the team in hitting. Alison Pitton had 20 kills and Angela Wiggins racked up 15.

The Bulldogs were able to do something the Broncos couldn’t: put the ball on the floor. The Bulldogs had 59 total kills compared to Boise State’s 38. The Broncos had a tough time putting the ball down because of a sturdy defense that recored 92 digs.

The Bulldogs will host the final home match Saturday and seniors Robyn Keune and Briana Rempel will be recognized.
