KFSR is for the old

Regarding the Aug 26. KFSR column; the reason no one knows about KFSR is because KFSR caters to the older, wealthier, donating jazz sponsors who are responsible for a huge portion of the station’s operating funds.

I was a deejay for KFSR last year. Sulenta is right when he says most students don’t know about KFSR, but judging by the column’s information, it seems he’s taking a wild guess when he says most people in the city are unaware of the station.

I also think it’s insane to claim KFSR has more progressive programming than ANY station in the Los Angeles or San Francisco area.

People know about KFSR, they just aren’t people who many students come into contact with daily.

I agree that the station is the best in town. They do play a wide variety of music and have very informative, entertaining and professional-sounding special programs, but I think it’s not serving the community of bored younger people in Fresno as well as it could.

The station is very fortunate to have so many donors and I’m sure KFSR plays the best jazz in town, too, but if the station is to serve the university, it needs to play music that younger people are interested in.

If KFSR were something more students on campus were interested in, it wouldn’t need marketing. Students would talk about it and things would happen.
