Newcomers lead the way for women’s golf third-place finish at Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic


Women’s golf shot 882 in a three-round tournament to take third place at the Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic.


Fresno State finished behind second-place New Mexico (874) and Baylor University, who finished in first in an overwhelming fashion. The Bears secured first place with a score of 859.


Freshman Taylor Siebert, with scores of 74, 72 and 69, led the Bulldogs and improved on her 15th place start to finish in a tie for fifth place overall.


Sophomore Laura Luethke tied for 12th with rounds of 73-71-75.


Freshman Jennifer Shipley finished in a tie for 21st and Adrianna Chico and Meggie Fagundes finished tied for 37th and 39th, respectively.


The Bulldogs will be in the Wolf Pack Invitational Sept. 26-28 at D’Andrea Golf Club in Sparks, Nev.

Fourth-place finish for Men’s golf at the Elco CSUB Invitational


In a three-round style tournament, Fresno State shot 299-292-293, for a total of 884 and moved up to finish fourth place at the Elco California State University Bakersfield Invitational Tuesday.


Arizona, with a score of 859, took first place while CSU Bakersfield came in second with 861 and British Columbia took third place with 879.


Redshirt freshman Brian Ward, who shot 75-71-77 for a total of 213, shot a 5-under 67 in the third round to finish tied for second. Ward finished behind the winner, British Columbia’s David Stewart.


Senior Jason Anthony registered 74 Tuesday to come in 15th. Nick McClintock finished in 22nd place with 224 and senior Gunnar Avinelis had rounds of 76-75-77 to finish 34th with 228, and Mark Pryor shot a third round of 83 to end in 75th place.


Next up for the Bulldogs is the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate Friday and Saturday at The Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
