Two Fresno State women’s basketball players have been found ineligible
to play this fall, coach Adrian Wiggins announced Tuesday.
Senior guard Mirenda Swearengin and sophomore guard Tierre Wilson were
ruled academically ineligible for the fall semester of the upcoming season.
Fresno State’s athletic media relations representative Brian Russo
said the players would only be out for the fall semester, and could return
to the team in the spring semester if they improve on their grades.
According to NCAA rules, a student-athlete must fulfill a minimum grade
point average that places the player in good academic standing, set by
the school.
To be in good academic standing at Fresno State, students must maintain
a grade point average of 2.0 or better.
Both players have been cleared to practice with the team, according to
a press release from athletic media relations.
Last season Swearengin established herself as one of the main point guards
in the team by starting in every game but one. She also played in the
postseason WNIT tournament and was the third highest scorer in the team,
averaging 10.5 points a game, according to the press release.
Wilson was one of the most valuable reserve players on the team last season.
She averaged 5.3 points per game off the bench.
Swearengin and Wilson could not be reached for comment.
