New York Times offers professors benefits
By AMY ROBERTS
The latest newspaper to debut on campus hopes Fresno State’s faculty
will incorporate The New York Times into its curriculum.
“We’ll be working to host a faculty luncheon on the campus
in April,” said Peter Eliason, regional education manager for The
New York Times.
This meeting is an opportunity to meet with the newspaper’s education
team and discuss strategies for effectively using the paper in classroom
situations and booking guest speakers from The New York Times.
Professors who agree to use The New York Times in their classes will also
benefit directly from the newspaper.
“We offer faculty who are using the newspaper in their class a complimentary
13-week home delivery subscription,” said Kathleen O’Connell,
a national education sales director. “This offer is not dependent
on Fresno State including The Times in its readership program. We do,
however, ask that the faculty truly use the paper in the classroom.”
As part of the agreement, The New York Times will provide the newspaper
free of charge for half of the semester and Associated Students will pay
for the remainder of the semester.
The papers will be available in temporary stands near designated readership
program dispensers at six locations around campus.
“We are very committed to bringing news of the world to students,”
O’Connell said.
She said in-depth classroom discussions help students connect the news
to where they live.
