Legend's son dives into campus

By NYRIE KARKAZIAN

World-renowned oceanographer Jean-Michel Cousteau will be speaking on “The Great Ocean Adventure” on campus Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Satellite Student Union as part of the University Lecture Series.

Cousteau, son of legendary explorer Jacques Cousteau, has followed in his father’s footsteps by spending his life exploring the mysteries of the ocean.

He has spent most of his life aboard the research vessels Calypso and Alcyone, bringing beautiful undersea life to people all around the world.

Another large part of Cousteau’s life has been communicating his love and concern for our planet to people of all nations and generations.

One of the many ways he has accomplished this is by founding a non-profit marine conservation and education organization in 1998 called the Ocean Futures Society.

Cousteau made history in 2002 by becoming the first person to represent the environment in an opening ceremony of the Olympic games.

He will also be taking part in the dedication ceremony of the Science II building Friday.

“We are very excited to be able to bring someone of this caliber to our university to commemorate this important event in the opening of the Science II building,” said associate dean Dianne Dickerson.

Advance prices are $10 for general admission and $2 for seniors and students.
