Raising alcohol awareness on St. Patrick’s Day

Several campus programs, including the Alcohol Advisory Council Student Subcommittee and Social Norms Project, think of the color green when they promotes alcohol awareness.


A St. Patrick’s Day barbecue will be held in The Pit at the University Student Union on Mar. 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.


An Irish Step Dance will be performed by Cynthia Merrill’s School of Arts. Also, free hot dogs and non-alcoholic drinks, music and prizes will be available at the barbecue.


In addition, results of a new informal survey of students’ plans for spring break will be revealed.

Lovely songs

The Fresno State Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will kick off their annual Central California tour with a performance, “Love and Song in the Romantic Era,” on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Concert Hall.


The concert is directed by Anna Hamre, and it will highlight European music from the 19th century with a guest appearance by the Fresno Community Chorus.


Tickets are $8 for general and $6 for students. For more information, call 278-2654.

Percussion event on Saturday

The Fresno State music department will present its 14th annual Central California Day of Percussion on Saturday in the Concert Hall. The clinics will be at 8:45 a.m. and the concert at 6:30 p.m. The clinic admission is $15 for general admission and $10 for students. The concert is $10 for general admission and $6 for students.

Armenia author to discuss book

Author of “My Brother’s Road” Markar Melkonian will speak Tuesday at Fresno State as part of the Armenian Studies program spring lecture series. The lecture will be held Tuesday in the Industrial Technology Building, Room 101, at the corner of Barstow Avenue and Campus Drive. The event is free and open to the public.


“My Brother’s Road” is the story of Melkonian’s brother, Armenian hero Monte Melkonian, who grew up to become a promising archaeologist, witness to revolution in Iran, militiaman in the streets of Beirut, guerrilla in southern Lebanon, prison strike leader in France and commander of 4,000 fighters in the Karabagh War in the last days of the former Soviet Union.
