Winning streak ends for Bulldogs women

Staff Report / The Collegian

Fresno State has always had a tough time with Jillian Robbins.

In the three games the Bulldogs had played against Tulsa, the Western Athletic Conference freshman of the year and all-conference first teamer from a year ago averaged 13 points and almost 10 rebounds against the Bulldogs.

Fresno State didn’t do much to change that Thursday.

Robbins overpowered Fresno State, scoring 27 points and pulling down 11 rebounds, in leading the Golden Hurricane to an 81-69 win at the Donald W. Reynolds Center in Tulsa.

Robbins scored 20 points and was a perfect 10 for 10 from the field in the first half.

Fresno State (15-7, 7-6 (WAC) went into halftime down 44-23 after shooting 21 percent in the first half, compared to 64 percent shooting for the Golden Hurricane (14-8, 6-6 WAC) in the half.

For the game, Tulsa shot 57 percent and Fresno State used a second-half surge to bring its shooting percentage to 38.5 for the game.

Mirenda Swearengin led Fresno State in scoring with 19 points. Amy Parrish scored 17, and Aritta Lane had 14 points and led the team with eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs play their final road game of the season against Rice in Houston on Saturday.
