Beau Mills and David Gomez hit home runs Saturday to lead Fresno State to a 12-5 win in the annual alumni game at Beiden Field.

The Bulldogs got on the board early, putting up two runs in the second inning on an RBI double by Mills, who batted in three runs in the game, and a single by Ryan Overland.

Taking the loss for the alumni was Los Angeles Dodgers starter Jeff Weaver, who pitched two innings and gave up only the two second-inning runs.

Ryan Penn pitched three innings for the Bulldogs to take the win, giving up one run on a third-inning home run by 2004 All-American Richie Robnett, playing in his first alumni game as a member of the alumni team.

The Bulldogs continued to manufacture runs after the second inning, scoring three in the fourth and seventh innings and two runs in the fifth and eighth innings.

Fresno State’s five pitchers (Penn, Brandon Miller, Rudy Quinonez, Michael Cooper and Matt Garza) combined to strike out nine alumni batters in the game.

Sophomore Christian Vitters went 2 for 5 with two runs for Fresno State, and Kent Sakamoto went 2 for 3 and scored three runs. Gomez and DeAndre Miller each chipped in with two RBIs for the Bulldogs, who open the regular season Friday at Stanford.
