When you look around the Fresno State campus, you see such a diverse group of students with not only unique styles, personalities and interests, but also bags.
The bag each student chooses to carry with them for the entire semester or year, whatever it may be, is unique to them.
I decided to go out and find a handful of girls that stood out to me, get to know them a little bit and capture them and their bags. I also chose to include myself and the bag I carry around.
Whether this serves as your inspiration for a new and improved school bag or is just a cute little story for you to look through, I hope you enjoy it.
This is Rubi Pastrano.

Pastrano is an international student from Ecuador who travelled to the U.S. to pursue schooling. She is a junior majoring in construction management and minoring in computer science. The brown leather General Supply Goods Co. bag she carries was a start-of-college gift to Pastrano from her mom, so her bag travelled with her from Ecuador.
“I think it’s useful because it has a lot of pockets, but it also looks cute so it’s a cute, useful book bag,” Pastrano said.
This is Milo Payongayong.

Payongayong is a freshman majoring in pre-health who wants to go into nursing. Her bag was a souvenir she purchased from Italy. She stated that the look, the fashionability and the comfort of the bag was what really made her want it. Even though she sometimes misses the even distribution a backpack provides, this bag is worth it.
“It’s also a really big shoulder bag so I can just put anything I want in it, whether it’s my laptop or random things like my collectable Smiskis,” Payongayong said.
This is Jackelynn Ponce.

Ponce is a freshman majoring in psychology and she carries the Uerruam Corduroy Dark Pink Tote Bag. She stated that she has always wanted a bag like this, ever since she was a part of an Educational Opportunity Program over the summer and saw several other girls there using it.
“For, I think the first week, I didn’t have it so I was using an old backpack from high school and I was just waiting for this to arrive…I think it’s better than a backpack,” Ponce said.
This is Renae Broers.

Broers is a freshman pursuing a liberal studies major. The bag she carries is a The North Face Jester backpack in black. It’s a comfortable feeling on her back to use this backpack and she is able to carry a lot with her due to the large amount of space it has.
“I chose this backpack because it’s simple and it’s cute and also because it has a lot of pockets inside,” Broers said.
This is me, Rachel Yepremian-Owens!

This is my senior year. I major in media, communications and journalism with an emphasis in digital journalism, as well as minor in Armenian studies. I decided to use this Louis Vuitton Neverfull that was gifted to me from a close family friend. It’s custom painted and decorated with unique patches to represent my personality.
This bag truly lives up to its name and is never full. I stuff everything and anything I can inside of it. I also love to dress nice when I go to school, so this bag is always the cherry on top. It’s classy and professional, matches all of my outfits and is still fun and special to me.
