Pi Sigma Epsilon members put together their Vintage Days Booth. They spent Thursday afternoon getting ready for the barbecue, their planned booth for the weekend.

Volunteer dealers such as Adam Tietv, a junior music education major, spent Thursday night dealing at the numerous Blackjack and Poker tables as part of Vintage Days casino night.

While students head to their classes today, they may find themselves sidetracked by the sweet smells of cinnamon rolls and kettle corn.

No, they all aren’t having visions of attending The Big Fresno Fair. They just might be skipping class today to check out the Boomtown Carnival, part of Fresno State’s annual Vintage Days.

Boomtown Carnival, a series of food booths ran by Fresno State student organizations, is located in front of the Music Building. Other food booths can be found along Maple Avenue near the Satellite Student Union.

The carnival also hosts several game booths. Simon Haeder, president of the Resident Hall Association, said the organization is in charge of the Art Spinner booth, where children and anyone feeling artistic can make designs using paint.

“It’s a good way for the students to interact with the community,” Haeder, a senior political science major, said of Vintage Days’ broad appeal.

Located next to RHA’s craft booth will be the ever-popular Dunk Tank. The game, controlled by the Resident Life Staff of University Courtyard, is “pretty successful, if the weather’s warm,” Haeder said.

One event students and the community can take part in Friday is Salsa Night in the Satellite Student Union.

Salsa lessons will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and those attending can dance the night away to live music until midnight. Hosted by the Fresno State Salsa Club, the night of dancing is free for Fresno State students and $10 for the general public.

“I hope they have really good music and a good atmosphere,” junior Valerie Miranda said of Salsa Night.

The junior business marketing and Chicano and Latino studies major said in addition to going to Salsa Night she hopes to find “cute jewelry” at the Crafts Faire.

Students stuck having to attend class today may still attend Vintage Days over the weekend as the festival runs through Saturday.

Danielle McCurdy, a junior English major, said she’s never attended Vintage Days but plans to after she saw— and smelled— the good food while in class last year.

“One time a girl brought kettle corn to class and I was jealous. I thought, ‘Why didn’t I buy some?’”

McCurdy said.
