After two recounts current AS Senator Stephen Trembley won a seat over candidate Alondra Flores with a margin of two votes.

Flores challenged the results on election night held April 6. After results were announced, she asked for a recount of her and Trembley’s votes.

The top seven finishers in the at-large senator race receive seats on the Senate. On Thursday night the first counts had current Senator Trembley two votes ahead of Flores.

Trembley said he is excited and relieved that the results have been verified.

“This election was a true validation of a democracy where every vote truly does count. Next year is going to be a remarkable year for Fresno State, and I feel honored to be a part of it,” Trembley said.

The first recount took place Friday morning. The League of Women voters, who volunteer to run the polls and count the votes for the AS elections, also handled the recount of the ballots.

Since Friday’s recount had the two candidates tied, the League of Women Voters held a third count to verify their results on Tuesday of last week.

The final count again put Stephen Trembley ahead by two votes. The League of Women Voters verified the results.

Alondra Flores said she has accepted the results and is looking forward to running again next year.

“I don’t think that I will be taking any further action. He’s a good candidate for the position. I will be running again next year,” Flores said.

Both candidates fell that the election was fair and that the Election Commission and League of Women Voters did a good job of ensuring a fair campaign.

“I’m satisfied with this year’s turnout and with the candidates who ended up winning. It was a good campaign,” Flores said.

“I want to thank the Election Commission and the League of Women Voter’s for their time and dedication to ensure that every student’s vote was counted,” Trembley said.
