“Get Out There: Fun Fair” will expose National Public Health
Week to Fresno State students Tuesday.
The Social Norms Program will have local vendors to provide information,
entertainment and prizes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the balcony of the
University Student Union. National Public Health Week is April 3 – 9.
“The Fun Fair is to get the students out and around town to open
their minds and to try something new during spring break,” Social
Norms Project Director Sam Gitchel said, “I think the students will
enjoy the information that the local venders will provide them, there are
a number of ideas for spring break that most students have not thought
of.”
Some vendors will be promoting health and sporting adventures, such
as Herb Bauer Sporting Goods, the Kinesiology Pedagogy Club and Kings
River Expeditions. Other vendors will be promoting artistic adventure
with the African American Museum or the Indian Center of Central
California.
“B95 will be playing music from 12 – 1 p.m., while the local
vendors are giving free prizes away,” said Diane Traje, co-chair
of Alcohol Advisory Council-Student Subcommittee.
“There will be free ice cream served around 12:30 p.m. that was donated
by the Health Science department,” Gitchel said. “All the ice
cream servers are volunteer faculty members, staff and students from the
Health Science department.”
“Around 12 and 2 p.m. the Social Norms Program will be raffling the
names for prizes, such as sweatshirts and Target gift cards worth $20,” said
Tara Powers, co-chair of AACSS. “You do not need to be present to
win a prize, just show up and sign a raffle ticket.”
“As a Fresno State student, I would be excited about this opportunity
to know and to get involved with this event that are available during Spring
Break,” said health science major Kaelyn Townsend. “For those
students that are staying home during spring break, they also could have
fun doing many adventures throughout Fresno.”
“I think the ‘Get Out There: Fun Fair’ will be exciting
for the students, and it might become an annual event from now,” Gitchel
said.
