The Fresno State women’s softball team won its first series of the season 2-1 despite losing its final game to Nevada.
The Wolf Pack broke Fresno State’s 15-game WAC win streak with the 2-1 victory Saturday.
The Wolf Pack scored first with a solo home run in the fourth inning, followed by another in the sixth, courtesy of a wild pitch.
Freshman pitcher Robin Mackin took the loss, despite nine strikeouts over the course of the game.
Fresno State picked up its only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single.
The game’s start was pushed back for more than two hours after rain began falling in the late morning.
In WAC opening weekend play, freshman third baseman Haley Perkins was the Bulldogs’ top batter, going 6-10 for the series including two runs and a sacrifice fly.
On the pitching mound, Mackin went 1-1 for the series with 27 strikeouts in 16 innings while freshman Merryann Barr finished 1-0 with five strikeouts in five innings.
The Bulldogs will next take on Santa Clara on Tuesday at home.
