Abortion column misleading

I think Natalie Garcia’s article “SD abortion law places unfair burden on low income women” is a disservice to the student population.

Natalie sadly does not provide any hard facts or statistics concerning the demographics of poor women, abortion’s influence on poverty, health trends and other issues. Her article is frivolous, which distracts from the real issue, that is, “is the unborn a human being?”

Natalie’s argument and pro-abortion arguments presuppose that the birth of an unplanned child has a negative effect on women’s lives and that abortion has a positive or at least neutral effect.

According to a study (Acta Obsetricia et Gynecolgica Scandinavica 76:651-657 (1997)), death after an abortion within 1 year is 3.5 times higher when compared to women carrying to term. From the same study, women who had an abortion within 1 year are 76% more likely to die compared to non-pregnant women.

More studies show us that the suicide rate for women that gave birth is half of the general population.

It is not adequate to only reply “It is our body and we have the right to do what we want!” anymore.

I end with some thoughts for you to ponder.

If the unborn is not human then we are just advanced cells. Are we just bigger than when we were in the womb, but that’s it. What about the pain that an unborn child feels during an abortion? Do you think acid on your body or being dismembered might cause pain? I don’t condone such acts and this language is just to illustrate the ridiculousness of abortion.
