With one day before the deadline, only one candidate has officially declared an interest for the top seat in the Associated Students elections seat and one candidate has been disqualified.
AS Senator At-Large John Migliazzo said he turned in his paperwork to run for AS president earlier this month.
Election commissioner Deborah Napoleon said her commission disqualified AS personnel committee member for campaign violations.
According to a notice signed by Napoleon, Caglia was disqualified for campaigning ahead of the formal campaign period on his myspace.com and facebook.com Web pages.
Napoleon said the campaign period officially starts March 22 at 7 p.m. after evaluation of the petitions.
Executive Vice President Juan Pablo Moncayo said he also plans to run in the presidential race. Moncayo said he is still collecting signatures for his petition and he will turn in his official petition on Monday or Tuesday.
The election rules have also changed for write-in candidates. The candidates will be required to notify the election commission of their status before the elections.
To qualify to be a candidate in the elections, a candidate must have attended at least one semester at Fresno State, maintained a GPA of at least 2.0 and be enrolled in at least six units per semester.
Fifteen senators and two executives will be elected in the upcoming election, which will take place April 4. 5 and 6.
Eight senators will represent colleges and seven will hold at-large senate positions assigned to several areas of responsibility such as parking and student affairs.
Students will also vote on a petition seeking to increase instructional related funds by $40. Thirty dollars from the funds will be used to improve technology services such as e-mail and $10 will be split into two.
Five dollars would be used to increase general IRA funds and another $5 would be used to establish funding for study abroad programs.
All petitions must be received on Tuesday by 5 p.m.
