Letters to the Editor

Letters to the Editor

Opinion page fails to deliver

Unless I am mistaken, I thought the purpose of an Opinion page was to express an opinion. Intelligently. Since the beginning of the 2005-2006 academic year, cleverly written and well-written pieces have been most difficult to come by. I am positively aghast that articles like “Trick-or-treating traumatized me for life,” “My awesome speech impediment,” “The strange things you see at work,” and “My open letter to Rachel McAdams” actually made it to print. The writing is downright frivolous.

Where are the articles that spark animated discussions and an influx of letters to the editor? The articles saturated in wit and satire? The Collegian, once upon a time, boasted writing of that caliber, names like Ethan Chatangier and Luke Moritz come to mind.

The publication of articles like those stated above is an embarrassment to The Collegian. To have worked so hard to gain independence from the student government only to print watered-down material is such a waste. This is a university campus. There are practically an infinite number of ideas and opinions out there that have yet to be touched upon. Why don’t you use them?
