Fresno State women’s tennis, No. 35 in the NCAA, scored a victory over No. 20 William and Mary Wednesday.

They improved to a 7-5 record.

The efforts of freshman Magdalena Tokarska stood out. Tokarska lost the first set of the final match, but took home the three remaining for a Bulldog victory.

Head coach Simon Thibodeau was singularly proud of the team’s efforts and not only because they dominated all doubles play.

“We played better in singles today than we have the past few matches,” Thibodeau said. “I knew we had a good chance in doubles and the ladies played tough at all three spots in the lineup.

“The seniors really showed up today, and Magda and Bruna fought hard.”

In singles, Lucia Sainz and Katharina Winterhalter beat out the Tribe at No. 4 and No. 2, repectively, giving the Dogs a 3-1 lead, but wins for their opponent tied the score, leaving Torkarska to win the final match of the evening.
