The Fresno State baseball team grabbed the lead against the San Francisco Dons in the second inning and held off the Dons in a 5-2 victory Wednesday night.

The first game of the series on Tuesday was rained out.

The Bulldogs snagged their fifth win in a row with the help of sophomore Brian Lapin’s two runs scored. Senior Kent Sakamoto also put in for two hits.

In the first inning the Dons led of with a grounder that was misplayed and allowed hitter Joey Railey to steal second and score on the next hit.

The Bulldogs came back in the second with singles from Christian Vitters and Lapin. Vitters scored on catcher Frank LoNigro’s hit over the Don’s shortstop. Lapin scored two batters later but LoNigro was taken out at plate to close the inning.

The Dons tied the game in the sixth, but couldn’t last after a double by Sakamoto. Sakamoto made it to third on a grounder from Beau Mills and the Bulldogs capitalized on multiple errors by the Dons and took the lead 5-2. The Bulldogs kept the Dons scoreless for the remaining innings.

March 12 the Bulldogs will host Bucknell at 1:05 p.m. to open the Pepsi/Johnny Quik Classic.
