Six runs in a single inning by the Cal Poly Mustangs proved to be too much for the Bulldog softball team to overcome in the Palm Springs Classic Saturday.

The Bulldogs started out strong with a home run in the first inning by freshman Haley Perkins. Pitcher Robin Mackin kept the momentum going by striking out three batters in the bottom half.

The Bulldogs were up 2-0 in the fourth thanks to a one-out double by sophomore Kristin Sylvester. Senior Katrina Jacques came into run for Sylvester and was batted in one out later by Mackin who doubled.

Fresno State’s lead increased in the fifth thanks to a two-out double by senior Christina Clark.

The Mustangs came back in the fifth by scoring three, tying the score.

The Bulldogs were unable to hold on despite a solo homer from Sylvester in the sixth.

The Bulldogs lost 9-4 and finished the tournament 3-2. Their overall record now stands at 9-7.

The Bulldogs will be on the road again for the Aztec Classic, March 3-5.
