Women's Basketball Preview
Fresno State (18-6, 10-2) at San Jose State (11-12, 6-6)
Point Guard
The Spartans gave the Bulldogs a very tough first half of the game when they met in San Jose, but the second half of the game was a different story. Leadership from the likes of Bulldog players, such as Mirenda Swearengin, helped the Bulldogs ultimately blowout the Spartans. Swearengin had 10 points and 3 steals against San Jose State in their first meeting.
Brittany Imaku cannot hang with Swearengin offensively or defensively. Last time out against Fresno State, Imaku turned the ball over five times and shot only 1 for 8 from the field.
Guards
It is not too difficult to predict that Tierre Wilson and Chantella Perera will once again have dominant games against the Spartans. Something went very wrong for the Bulldogs in their loss against Nevada.
Meghan McGuire had 25 points off the bench for the Wolf Pack, leading one to wonder what happend to the stellar defense and effort from the Bulldogs.
Anetero Uiagalelei started against Fresno State in the last meeting, but scored only two points. The Spartan bench also only had a miserable one point against the Bulldogs. That was a big reason for being blown out.
Forwards
Defensively, the Bulldogs did have a little bit of difficulty down low. The starting post players for the Spartans combined for 15 rebounds. Erica Henry and Faith Probst have played well with increased playing time. Amy Parrish leads the Bulldogs in points per game, averaging a little over 14 points. Fresno State’s home-court advantage may be enough to keep Amber Jackson and Lamisha Augustine from having repeat performances.
Both Amber Jackson and Lamisha Augustine nearly put in double-double’s against Fresno State at home. Parrish and Green now know how to stop them after seeing them once already.
