As weather turns foul, mice head indoors

Fresno State students and staff who use campus offices have recently found themselves sharing their space with mice, which Plant Operations Director Gary Wilson said are coming in from the colder and wetter climate.

Student-members of the Advanced Technology Enterprise who use an office in the Industrial Technology building said they have recently seen at least one mouse in the room and know of several others in the building.

“I saw one last night,” said one of four individuals eating lunch in the office. They said they haven’t seen any other mice, but “Where there’s one there’s a whole bunch.”

An assistant wrestling coach who uses an office in the North Gym said he and a coworker were recently in the office when a mouse managed to find its way into the coworker’s bag.

“He had to carry the bag outside to get rid of it,” he said.

Wilson said foul weather is ushering the rodents into campus buildings from thesurrounding fields.

People’s food is also a factor.

“It’s hard to tell everyone not to eat in their office, but it would be beneficial,” he said.

Wilson said exterminators are typically called when the mouse problem becomes too great.
