Women’s basketball opens season on the road


After two impressive 30-plus exhibition wins, Fresno State will open the season today at UC Irvine.


The Anteaters finished 8-21 overall last year for a seventh-place finish in the Big West Conference.
Fresno State leads the all-time series, holding a 15-3 edge.


The Bulldogs’ veteran senior Amy Parrish is expected to make her first appearance in a game since the red/white scrimmage earlier this month.


Cross Country holds banquet


At the annual awards banquet, the cross country team honored the Bulldogs top scoring trio. Juniors Andrea Buckner and Zinzi Evans were the top two runners and Roxanne Sellick rounded out the top three.


As Fresno State’s top finisher, Andrea Buckner was named the team’s Most Valuable runner by first-year coach Joe Gonzales.


Buckner qualified for her third straight NCAA Western Region and first career All-Westsern Athletic Conference honor in 2005.


Evans was the No. 2 runner all year and was presesnted with the Oustanding Runner award.


The Bulldogs finished the year finishing in the top five at the 2005 WAC championship and qualifying for the NCAA Western Region.

’Dogs honored for academic excellence


Senior defensive end Garrett McIntyre and sophomore kicker Clint Stitser have been named to the Academic All-District 8 squad. The district includes all Division 1 programs in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.


This is McIntyre’s third consecutive appearnce on the academic All-WAC team. McIntyre is on schedule to graduate in four years with a degree in a construction management with a 3.3 GPA.


Clint Stitser maintains a 4.0 GPA as a business major. Before he got hurt, Stitser ranked as high as No. 10 in the nation in scoring.
