NCAA tourney run ends for women’s soccer


In just its second NCAA tournament appearance in school history, the women’s soccer team lost 5-0 in the opening round to fifth-ranked Santa Clara.


Because of a stingy Bronco defense the Bulldogs could only generate six shot attempts.


Despite a rough first half, Fresno State proved in the second half it could be competitive with a team making its 17th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.


In the second half, Alison Sill slipped by a Bronco defender and fired a shot.


The Bulldogs conclude their year with a 10-10-2 overall record.

Cross Country wraps up season


Fresno finished the season on Saturday with a 25th place finish in the NCAA Western Region at Stanford University. The Bulldogs competed in a 30-team field.


As usual, Andrea Buckner finished first for the ’Dogs and 67th overall.


Zinzi Evans, Roxanne Sellick, Marina Santana, Patty Torres and Paloma Dominguez all made their first NCAA individual appearances and had personal-best 6K times.


Volleyball’s winning streak ends in Nevada


The Wolfpack ended Fresno State’s longest winning streak with a 30-13, 30-14, 30-26 win over the Bulldogs.


After being dominated in the first two games, the Bulldogs put up a fight in the third. The Bulldogs stayed with the Wolfpack throughout the game.


Fresno State will face Boise State and Idaho to finish out the regular season.

Football moves up the national polls


The win over rival Boise State helped the Bulldogs jump up four spots from No. 20 to the No. 16 spot in the AP poll and USA Today Coaches poll.


This is the highest ranking since the No. 8 ranking in 2001.


The Bulldogs will take their No. 16 ranking to USC when they will test the Trojan’s 32-game winning streak.

Men’s basketball signs recruit


The first signed recruit in first-year coach Steve Cleveland’s tenure is highly touted junior college player Eddie Miller, who is a guard currently playing for the No. 1 preseason ranked Cecil Community College.
