CSU enrollment up this year after budget-driven drop in 2004

Staff Report

Following a decline in 2004, the CSU system enrolled 405,000 students this fall, the CSU Office of the Chancellor has reported.

The office said the 8,000-plus student increase was most felt in Fullerton, Northridge, Long Beach and San Jose, which together accounted for more than 6,000 new students.

CSU Chancellor Charles Reed said the increase is due partly to more funding from Governor

Schwarzenegger’s compact with the CSU system. He cited outreach to potential students as another reason.

“Our outreach to high schools and community colleges is continuing and we will be working to enroll more students during the coming spring and winter terms on campuses with available space,” Reed said.

The office also reported there are more full-time equivalent students this year (325,542) than in 2004 (317,234).
