Jazzing it up for Halloween

The Fresno State Jazz Bands “A” and “B” will be performing at a special Halloween Concert on Thursday.
Each bands’ 21 members will be in an array of Halloween outfits. The hour and a half long concert will offer a few Halloween surprises and will also feature some of the top music students on campus.
Assistant professor of music and event director, Michael Caldwell, said this will be the first time the Jazz Band will perform in costumes for Halloween.
The concert will also be a CD release party for the Jazz band as it releases the Fresno State Jazz CD. It is the first CD the Jazz Band has released in a number of years and will be available to purchase at the concert.
The Jazz Band “A” will consist of a vocalist, saxphones, trumpets, trombones and rhythm. The rhythm will consist of piano, guitar, bass, drums and percussion. The program for the Jazz Band “A” will consist of music: Nice to meet you, John Clayton; Surge, Chuck Owen; Such Sweet Thunder, Duke Ellington; Hate, Anger, Malice, Rage.., Josh Appleby; Mystique, Dave Eshelman; I Hear Music, Frank Loesser and Burton Lane; and Oceanography, Bob Florence.
Jazz Band “B” will consist of saxophones, trumpets, trombones and rhythm. Rhythm will consist of the same as Jazz Band “A” but will also include vibes. Music will include: Red Men’s Revenge, Don Meza; (It’s Just) Talk, Pat Metheny; West Side, Bill Holman; and Dizzyland, Don Meza.
The concert will take place in the Music Department Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 27. Tickets for the general public are $6 and $5 for students, seniors, faculty and staff.
