Men’s Golf finishes second in invitational, 3 make top 10

Fresno State competed against 15 other teams at the Alister MacKenzie Golf invitational Tuesday, placing second with 847 and losing to host Cal by only three stokes.

Purdue trailed with 848 placing third and Michigan and UC Irvine with 850 tied for fourth.

Senior golfer Jon Rosa brought the individual title home to the Dogs by shooting 71-67-67 with 205. Rosa defeated Stanford’s Rob Grube by one stroke.

Golfers Jason Anthony and Matt Shaw both shot 211 during the tournament and tied for 10th.

Head coach Mike Watney said top-10 finishes are hard to come by in college golf so it was a great start to have three.

Fresno State will play this Friday and Saturday at the Lexus Golf Classic at the San Joaquin Country Club.

Women’s soccer winless, hopes to break cycle during four-game stretch

Coming off of a two game losing streak women’s soccer hopes to win against WAC newcomer Idaho Vandals in conference play this Friday.

With only six games remaining women’s soccer needs to get back on track to place in the WAC championship.

Winless since the Sept. 18 against Sam Houston State, a 3-2 victory, Fresno State will play four games against the Vandals, who have dropped nine straight games of their own.

The Dogs (3-8-1, 0-1) hope to keep the Vandals (2-11, 0-2) scoreless before moving onto play WAC host Boise State on Sunday.

Women’s cross-country travels to Cal Poly Invitational Saturday

For the 10th year, Fresno State women’s cross country will participate at the Cal Poly Invitational, this time with five returning runners.

For two years senior Andrea Buckner and junior Zinzi Evans have run in the invitational. In 2004 Buckner placed fifth and Evans, 25th. Both runners have improved their times since competing at Cal Poly in 2003 by shaving more than a minute off of their times, collectively.
