It's too soon to forget

Being miles away from any hurricane
and with decreasing news coverage from local stations, people here are
already beginning to forget the pain and suffering of those hit by Hurricanes
Katrina, Ophelia and Rita.
Those hurricanes demolished parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas
causing millions of dollars in damage. Not to mention thousands of people
lost their jobs, their belongings and even their loved ones. These victims
still need our support.
The Students for Community Service and members of 182SL (Service Learning)
have gathered together to initiate a campus-wide effort to raise money
for hurricane victims. With full support from Chris Fiorentino, head of
civic engagement and Students for Community Service, these two groups
are challenging all students, faculty and staff to donate $1 to the Fresno
State Hurricane Relief project.
The goal is to raise $23,000 to help aid in the relief of hurricane victims,
Sundeep Dhillon, member of 182SL, wrote in an e-mail.
Donations are being accepted in the Civic Engagement and Service-Learning
office in Science I, room 136. Checks are to be made out to”CSUF
Foundation” with “Hurricane Relief” in the memo section.
The collection will continue until all $23,000 is raised.
