The International Student Volunteers (ISV) welcomes you to pick one out of a selection of six countries for a four-week summer travel and work program.

The countries include Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand, Dominican Republic, Ecuador or Thailand. The program is broken down into two parts: one, a two-week volunteer program and two, a two-week outdoor adventure tour.

The volunteer portion is designed to give participants practical experience in conservation issues or working with local people in community development projects, Heather Kennedy, an ISV recruiter, said.

“Depending on what country you visit there are numerous projects to participate in,” said Kennedy. “There is sea turtle conservation, rainforest conservation, community recreation programs, endangered species management, home and community building programs and other programs.”

The outdoor adventure portion of the trip is designed to allow the participant to travel and explore the country they’re in. The exploration activities vary depending on the country. Hiking, white water rafting, black water rafting in glow worm caves, scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef (Australia), jungle kayaking, snowboarding in the Southern Alps and glacier climbing (New Zealand) are just some of the activities listed on their Web site.

The standard price of the trip is $2,495. The price includes all expenses during the first portion of the trip and all but half of the meals and optional or additional activities during the second half of the trip.

Kennedy and Erin Watson, ISV recruiters, will be presenting a descriptive and informative presentation about the trip on the hour every hour from 9 a.m. to 5p.m. today in room 312 on the second floor of the University Student Union.

“I believe, from my experience, that this trip is a great way to not only enjoy another country but to give back to the community that you volunteer for,” said Kennedy. “It is the most memorable experience I have ever had.”
