The 34th season of the Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts begins Sunday, Sept. 11 with a performance by Vahan Mardirossian.

Mardirossian, a renowned pianist, studied at the Paris Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse. The Conservatoire is known as a critical center to the evolution of music in France and Western Europe. He has performed with numerous chamber music collaborations with musicians like Ivry Gitlis, a talented violinist and Mstislov Rostropovich, a distinguished cellist and conductor.
But Mardirossian works mostly as a soloist in recitals and concert performances.

As a native of Paris, Mardirossian plays mostly in France. But within the past year he made his debut in Spain with Kurt Masur, a widely admired German conductor, and the Orchestre National de France.

Artistic director Andreas Werz, who is also a professor of piano at Fresno State, scheduled Mardirossian as the first of eight artists to perform this school year for the concert series.

Mardirossian is set to play pieces from famous artists such as Chopin, Brahms, Tanguy and Schumann.
All performances will be held in the Concert Hall in the East Music Building. Free parking will be provided in Lot C. General admission is $12.50, $7 for Senior citizens and $5 for Fresno State students with valid ID. Season tickets may also be purchased.
