Fashion magazine to visit campus, give tips on jobs, professional dress

Graduates and other students seeking jobs will get the chance to get expert fashion and career advice when Glamour magazine’s GlamRecruits Campus Tour stops at Fresno State on Monday.

The tour, which will be set up in front of the Kennel Bookstore from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature a fashion show, free giveaways, a women’s suit sale featuring designer brands and a speaker on “finding your dream job.”

Fresno State is one of only five schools to get a GlamRecruits event, Career Services counselor Alicia Andrade-Owen said.

“They selected five campuses across the West Coast,” she said. “(Fresno State was selected because) they said we were right in the middle of California.”

Andrade-Owen said the event was targeted at “students who are graduating or who want to know more about professional dress.”

“If the girls want to bring a suit to show them and have them take a look at it to see if it is a good first interview suit, they can do that,” Andrade-Owen said.

The event will feature designer suits by Anne Klein New York, AK Anne Klein and Le Suit. The suit will be provided by Kasper Clothing.

There will also be a shuttle to Macy’s for another Kasper fashion event, according to www.Glamour.com
Andrade-Owen said she was contacted by The Passion Group, the public relations company organizing the event for Glamour and that this is the first time that Fresno State had ever hosted such an event.

Michael Coppola, Passion Group marketing manager and GlamRecruits event director, said in an email that the other GlamRecruits stops, at New Mexico State, Arizona State and the University of Nevada Las Vegas had gone well and that the event will be “an experience of a lifetime.”

“It’s just amazing what companies are bringing onto campus these days,” he said. “I can honestly say that my college never had something of this magnitude, and after seeing the GlamRecruits event, I’d hope to see every campus running events like this one for all of its students in the future.”

Coppola said that not only will designer suits and professional career advice be available, but also that students will have the opportunity to win a tweed/leather handbag with a $100 gift card inside and the opportunity to win a summer internship at Glamour magazine in New York City.

“While the five suit brands are targeted for the female customer, everyone is welcome to the event,” he said. “There is plenty of room to hang out in the GlamRecruits lounge. We designed the GlamRecruits lounge knowing there would be students that simply wanted to chill and look at complimentary Glamour magazines while others tried on the clothes.”

Andrade-Owen said Career Services will have a table at the event and that she was looking forward to it.
