Fresno State coach Steve Cleveland announced the signing of Quinton Hosley
to a national letter of intent Tuesday.
Hosley, a 6-foot-7, 220-pound guard/forward from Lamar Community College
in Colorado, was selected first-team Division I Junior College All-American.
“We are excited to have Quinton in the program,” Cleveland
said in a news release. “He’s an outstanding player who will
have an immediate impact on our team and our ability to win.”
Hosley averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.1 steals per
game in 2003-04, shooting better than 80 percent from the free-throw line.
According to reports, Hosley originally signed with Providence after his
second season at Lamar, but was not immediately academically eligible
because he hadn’t completed some coursework. He went back to Lamar
this year to complete it, reports said.
Hosley was a teammate of Fresno State forward Hector Hernandez in high
school, at Lincoln High in Denver.
“[Quinton is] a multi-talented player who can play inside and outside,”
said Vince Valdez, who coached Hosley and Hernandez in high school, in
a news release. “He poses matchup problems at 6-7 because he can
shoot, put the ball on the floor and has a good inside game.
Hosley helped Lamar to a 25-8 record last season, good for a second-place
finish in the region.
Fresno State returns three starters and seven regulars from a team that
was 16-14 last season and 9-9 in the Western Athletic Conference. The
Bulldogs finished fourth in the WAC and advanced to the semifinals of
the WAC tournament.
The team’s top two scorers, Ja’Vance Coleman (16.3 points)
and Donovan Morris (11.7 points) are underclassmen.
