The Collegian has Int'l appeal
By PETAR MILEVOJ / Special to The Collegian
I am an international student from Croatia. I have lived in Fresno for the past four years and I will be graduating in May. My major is Mass Communication and Journalism with an Electronic Media Production emphasis.
I have experienced many positive moments since coming to Fresno State and I feel this is a great community for international students.
I enjoy being a part of Fresno State and I have been actively involved in a variety of events in the past four years.
The Collegian has certainly had a positive influence on my Fresno State experience.
Being an international student, I have always been willing to know more about events and stories related to campus, and The Collegian has always been a great resource for my needs, providing clarity and honesty in its articles.
One of the main advantages of The Collegian versus other local newspapers is that it is free. Most of the stories published are objective and well written, in my opinion. Many students are not aware of the importance of having a campus newspaper that is a voice for all students, including my fellow international students.
I know some international students are sending The Collegian, as a resource, to their home countries to show their families and friends the great experience they are having at the university. The newspaper, especially this semester, has covered a lot of issues affecting international students and has created awareness to their problems for the local Fresno community.
The new referendum that is in progress for The Collegian, is a very important step in making sure that the only student-run campus newspaper remains alive and successful.
Fresno State has been growing tremendously in the past couple of semesters.
Its goals are to become a well-known campus around the country. One of those goals should certainly include having a top-quality newspaper.
