Intramural basketball champs crowned

Triple Threat’s execution led to the demise of Huh’s season
in the women’s intramural championship Wednesday.
Triple Threat controlled the game, making clean passes, taking quality
shots and playing a team game that led to the 44-21 win.

“Right from the first game, we had really good team chemistry,”
said Triple Threat’s Kristen Fenton, who had six points in the game,
all in the second half. “We have fun and we’re helping each
other out on the court.”
Triple Threat showed a much more polished offense than Huh, moving the
ball with accuracy and deft timing.
“We worked the ball around and we broke down their zone,”
Ashley Owens said.
Triple Threat took control from the opening tip, jumping out to a 13-0
lead. Huh didn’t get on the board until Jennifer Cox hit a 3-pointer
nearly seven minutes into the game. Huh didn’t reach double digits
until less than a minute remained in the first half, by which time they
were down 19-10, the halftime score.
Huh was able to capitalize on the occasional Triple Threat defensive breakdown,
scoring on back-to-back 3-pointers midway through the first half.
Perhaps the biggest difference in the contest was depth. Triple Threat
had eight players and was able to substitute players at will. Huh, on
the other hand, had only five and was unable to substitute in fresh players.
“We have eight players who are awesome,” said Shayna Owens,
who scored 11 points for Triple Threat. “We’re not worried,
no matter who’s in.
“We all trust each other, whatever five are on the court. We have
five strong players on the court at all times, so that means we don’t
have to compensate for anybody.”
Triple Threat’s Maggie Thach led all players with 12 points and
four assists. Molly Sovacool led Huh with 11 points.
Five of Triple Threat’s players also were on the winning co-ed team,
Coeddy, which beat AS 69-34. The Kines Carnales beat the Ballers 47-41
for the Division I crown. The Hoosiers topped the Monkey Butlers 51-44
in Division II, and a desperation shot with one second left fell short
as BAP beat XPO for the Division III championship.
